What is ATHM?
The Assistive Technology and Home Modifications (ATHM) Scheme helps older people stay safe, comfortable, and independent at home by funding helpful equipment and small home changes.
What’s included?
Assistive Technology (AT) Equipment that helps with daily tasks or safety, such as:
-
- Walking frames or mobility aids
- Shower chairs or commodes
- Personal alarms
- Helpful kitchen or household tools
Home Modifications (HM)

How funding works
- ATHM funding is separate from your regular Support at Home budget.
- You cannot use your usual Support at Home funds to buy ATHM items.
- Items can only be bought after ATHM funding is approved and added to your budget.
- If you still have Home Care Package (HCP) funds, these may be used for approved ATHM items until the funds run out.
- Funding is provided at low, medium, or high levels, based on your My Aged Care assessment.
